Rotortrade Publishes Its Global Helicopter Market Report, Delivering Strategic Intelligence on the 2026 Market

Latrobe, United States, 17 March 2026  – Rotortrade, the global helicopter dealership, announces the release of its Global Helicopter Market Report 2026, marking the second consecutive year the company has published its comprehensive analysis of the worldwide civil helicopter market.

The report provides a detailed overview of the global fleet as of January 1, 2026, combining OEM production data, fleet intelligence, and operational analysis across all major mission segments. It confirms that global demand for helicopters remains strong, despite continued production constraints and extended delivery backlogs at OEM level.

In the multi-turbine segment, Airbus leads the global fleet with 4,459 helicopters, followed by Leonardo with 2,297 and Bell with 1,937 aircraft. In the single-turbine category, Bell (6,760 helicopters) and Airbus (6,707 helicopters) remain closely positioned, while Robinson continues to expand its presence through the R66 program. The piston market remains overwhelmingly dominated by Robinson, with 9,929 helicopters in operation worldwide, representing approximately 85–90% of certified piston helicopter production.

Operational demand continues to evolve across mission profiles. Emergency Medical Services contracts are increasingly favouring twin-engine platforms, offshore energy activity is expanding in markets such as Brazil and the Gulf of America, and climate-driven demand has significantly strengthened the firefighting segment, with Australia alone contracting more than 630 helicopters each season. Meanwhile, in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), the four leading companies have collectively raised over $10.6 billion, signalling sustained investor confidence in vertical flight innovation.

The report also highlights a structural imbalance shaping the market: strong customer demand versus constrained OEM production capacity. With delivery slots for certain models extending to 42-48 months, operators are increasingly turning to reconfigured pre-owned helicopters to accelerate entry into service. This dynamic continues to reinforce the strategic relevance of the secondary market.

Philippe Lubrano, CEO of Rotortrade, commented: “The helicopter industry remains fundamentally resilient. Demand across EMS, offshore, corporate and firefighting missions is strong, yet OEM backlogs are reshaping acquisition strategies worldwide. Our Global Helicopter Market Report is designed to provide operators, financiers and industry stakeholders with clear, data-driven insight. In this environment, access to reliable market intelligence is critical to making informed fleet decisions.”

Industry stakeholders are invited to access the full report to gain a comprehensive understanding of fleet dynamics, regional opportunities, emerging technologies, and the outlook for the global helicopter market.
